New KDRAMAS Alert: “Cheese in the Trap” & “One More Happy Ending”

New year, new KDRAMAS! Already we have some that are going to be amazing. For this post we’re going to highlight one of my current favorites (even after 2 episodes!) and another one with a couple pairing that is going to rival Shin Min Ah and So Ji Sub. Yeah, I know, that may be reaching, but stay with me here.

Cheese in the Trap 치즈 인 더 트랩
Genre:
Romance, comedy
Episodes: 16
Broadcast network: tvN
Broadcast period: 2016-Jan-04 to 2016-??

Park Hae Jin as Yoo Jung
Kim Go Eun as Hong Seol
Seo Kang Joon as Baek In Ho
Lee Sung Kyung as Baek In Ha
Nam Joo Hyuk as Kwon Eun Taek
Park Min Ji as Jang Bo Ra

So Cheese in the Trap is a popular web comic with a passionate fan base. It is still currently being written and translations are pretty controlled, but no matter, it is now a live action kdrama. Fans of the comic resisted it a bit. Especially with the casting. I think Seo Kang Joon was one that was kind of unexpected. For me, he has continually improved with every role. Considering his breakout role in Cunning Single Lady was that of an older man, it’s kind of nice to actually see him playing around his own age more and more.

Strangely enough, we have Park Hae Jin playing a character essentially 10 years younger than his actual age. He makes it work though and his chemistry with film actress Kim Go Eun is really interesting. It sort of dances around various feeling and attractions all at once. I didn’t think it would work, but it does. Expect a 4 episode test* soon!

One More Happy Ending 한번 더 해피엔딩
Also known as: The Rewrite
Genre: Romance
Episodes: 16
Broadcast network: MBC
Broadcast period: 2016-Jan-20 to 2016-Mar-10

Jang Na Ra as Han Mi Mo
Jung Kyung Ho as Song Soo Hyun
Kwon Yool as Da Jung
Yoo Da In as Goo Hae Joon
Yoo In Na as Go Dong Mi
Seo In Young as Hong Ae Ran

I’m finally at the point in my drama watching life where I can watch Jung Kyung Ho as his new characters and not as Shi Hyun in Heartless CityThat says a lot since that role is just so good and amazing. I need to rewatch that drama, but later so I don’t mess this one up.

So, One More Happy Ending‘s concept is about a once popular idol girl group and their post-fame days. Jang Nara plays the leader who now runs a matching making “re-marriage” service and Kyung Ho plays a reporter and single dad. I mean, did they have to make him a dad? If they have him do cute scenes with a kid, I’m going to be so done with this.

When I heard they were going to be paired together, I was pretty much all in. I think Jang Nara has great chemistry with a lot of her co-stars. Daniel Choi (Baby-faced Beauty) and Jang Hyuk (Fated to Love You) are some actors that come to mind when I think of it. I can already see the scenes in my head with them and I already love it all. Sure the supporting cast is pretty good, but I’m ready for the Nara & Kyung Ho chemistry. Them posting on SNS does not help with the anticipation.
Watch One More Happy Ending on TBD.

*4 episode test – An unofficial test that is given to Korean dramas in the dramaverse. First taught to me by India of DramaDebussie.com, it is basically a trial watch of a drama. If after 4 episodes, it does not progress well, you drop it without any conscience.
