New KDRAMAS Alert: ‘Bubblegum’ & ‘The Awl’

There’s going to be a little break in between kdramas, but that gives me time to catch up with Six Flying Dragons and The Village. Then we’re going to have an onslaught of what I hope to be an amazing winter of shows in the dramaverse. Let’s start with these two!

Bubblegum 풍선껌
Genre: Romance
Episodes: 16
Broadcast network: tvN
Broadcast period: 2015-Oct-26 to 2015-Dec-??

Lee Dong Wook as Park Ri Hwan
Jung Ryeo Won as Kim Haeng Ah
Lee Jong Hyuk as Kang Suk Joon
Park Hee Bon as Hong Yi Seul

Lee Dong Wook is back after a much needed break after his crazy 3 dramas in 2014. He also did the low rated, but delightful variety show, Roommate around the same time as well. I’m happy he took some time off because Bubblegum looks like he finally has an all around good drama on his hands. I mean, let’s face it, he’s a good actor, but some of his shows were a little out there.

I can’t say I’m a big fan of Jung Ryeo Won, but I can say after watching some of these teaser trailers, I’m in for this coupling. They have chemistry. If there’s anything that can get me, it’s that and seeing Dong Wook and his former Roommate Bae Jong Ok together again as well.
Watch Bubblegum on DRAMAFEVER.

The Awl송곳
Genre: Drama, human
Episodes: 12
Broadcast network: JTBC
Broadcast period: 2015-Oct 24 to 2015-Nov-29

Ji Hyun Woo as Lee Soo In
Ahn Nae Sang as Goo Go Shin
Kim Hee Won as Jung Min Chul

Based on a webtoon (so trendy these days) and the plight of the everyday worker, The Awl stars Ji Hyun Woo & Ahn Nae Sang as the leads. Hyun Woo’s last few performances were meh to me. I enjoy his work before the army, but since he’s been back, I’ve been sort of hesitant to really like him again. (Blame the braces.) I do feel like this is the kind of role he needs to get back into being a drama darling.

Nae Sang on the other hand is a veteran actor who goes non-stop. I love the previews so far with him and Hyun Woo. So I expect another good performance.

Hee Won is reunited with Hyun Woo again. They both finished Angry Mom last spring. The acting pool must be small in South Korea, but I do like Hee Won. He seems to have a knack for these kind of dramas. I see you Misaeng alumni. I don’t hate y’all coming for these shows.

We also have a Super Junior‘s Yesung and one of the kdrama Pasta chefs, Hyun Woo. (Let’s be real, those chefs were so great. No Min Woo & Choi Jin Hyuk… ahhh, so good.) I’m in!
Watch The Awl on TBD.
